Burnt cheese

This is a report from Nic's kitchen following a very smoky, acrid attempt at cooking supper.  Picture the scene - Jake needs to get out for scouts, Nic has prepared an 'interesting' cottage pie for supper.  The timings should be perfect:  Supper cooked, Jake fed, Jake delivered to scouts with enough calories on board to see him through to 8:30 p.m and end of scouts.  6:15 p.m clouds of rather unpleasant smelling, black smoke billow from the oven as it is pre-heated to the correct temperature.  What on earth?......

Now picture an earlier scene - Sunday lunch-time, post Jake's rugby training, Philip is cajoled into making Welsh Rarebit.  He familiarises himself with Nic's grill and then asks for baking foil.  There is no foil to be had, however, ever prepared, like a good scouting household he is offered baking trays and/or baking parchment.  Philip eschews the offer and the result is melting Welsh Rarebit dripping, in copious amounts, onto the bottom of the oven.  Suffice to say words were exchanged and Philip was later seen waving a cloth in the general direction of the oven.  Problem dealt with.... it would appear not, and with Philip well out of reach on the south coast, he has the last laugh.

Jake was a little late for scouts!

There must be something in the air to bring about slightly odd behaviours, Philip and the dripping cheese has been followed by Jake and his den building:
This cushion structure was embellished with more cushions, a duvet and a pillow and all before school.  Breakfast apparently had to be consumed whilst in the den.
Looking for normality to return soonest....
